WCPO: New Free Tool Finds You the Best Grocery Prices and Clips Coupons for You

Grocery shopping can be expensive enough without spending extra time checking prices across multiple stores or searching for coupons.

A recent report from WCPO looked at how technology can make grocery shopping easier and help shoppers save money, including by featuring CartHappy, a free tool that compares grocery prices, finds better deals, and automatically clips available coupons while you shop.

Comparing grocery prices without visiting multiple stores

Most shoppers have a preferred grocery store and tend to stick with it. For many families, shopping at multiple stores simply takes too much time.

That’s where CartHappy comes in.

CartHappy is a free Chrome extension that compares grocery prices across participating retailers while you shop online.

In the Tri-State area, CartHappy can compare prices across stores including Walmart, Kroger, Target, Costco, IGA and Aldi.

Instead of manually checking several websites, CartHappy does the comparison for you.

Finding savings inside your cart

WCPO put CartHappy to the test with a grocery pickup order.

After building a cart at Kroger, CartHappy compared the items with prices at other nearby stores and found an opportunity to save $13.25 by splitting the order between Kroger and Walmart.

CartHappy automatically identified the cheaper products and built a second basket at Walmart with those items.

The test also found another way to save: 11 Kroger coupons were automatically clipped, without requiring the shopper to search for them individually.

Sometimes, one store is already the best option

Saving money doesn’t always mean shopping at multiple stores.

In another test, CartHappy determined that Aldi was already the best option for the entire cart. Since there wasn’t enough additional savings to justify another stop, the recommendation was to stay with Aldi.

That’s an important part of the CartHappy experience: the goal isn’t simply to find a cheaper price somewhere else. It’s to help shoppers understand when switching stores or splitting a cart actually makes sense.
