WXYZ Detroit: How CartHappy Helps Shoppers Save on Groceries
With grocery bills adding up quickly, especially for larger families, finding ways to save can make a real difference.
In a recent Smart Shopper report, WXYZ Detroit tested CartHappy with a local family to see how much they could save on a typical grocery order.
The results showed just how much a simple price comparison can make a difference.
Putting CartHappy to the test
WXYZ reporter Kiara Hay worked with Brittalia Jones, a Detroit-area mom of four who manages a household of six.
Jones explained that her family’s grocery spending can reach around $800 a month during the summer, when her kids are home more often.
WXYZ then used one of her previous Kroger shopping orders and added 42 items back to her cart.
CartHappy compared those products with prices at other participating retailers.
$28.32 in potential savings
Out of the 42 items in the cart, 8 were available for less at Walmart.
CartHappy identified $28.32 in potential savings by moving those products to Walmart while keeping the rest of the shopping trip at Kroger.
The extension can then automatically create a second cart with those cheaper items, so shoppers don’t have to search for the products or rebuild their cart themselves.
“That’s great,” Jones said after seeing the results.
Saving by splitting your cart
This is one of the ways CartHappy can help shoppers save without completely changing where they shop.
Instead of choosing one store for everything, CartHappy can compare your entire cart and show you when splitting it between retailers could save you money.
In this example, shopping at two stores — Kroger and Walmart — created an opportunity to save almost $30 on the same 42-item order.

We’re excited to see CartHappy featured in WXYZ Detroit’s Smart Shopper report, where the team put the extension to the test with a real grocery order.
The report highlights something we believe is important: saving on groceries doesn’t always mean changing where you shop. Sometimes, it simply means knowing where each item is cheapest.
And CartHappy does the comparison for you.
